This week I tried an incredible new dish where I’ll leave out all details except the photo of the dish and some comments on the experience…

As you can see, this is a dish that resembles the Hakuna Matata song / scene from Disney’s Lion King movie. I’m not sure the restaurant technically gave it this name, but the phrase was mentioned so let’s just roll with that. 😅
🐜🪱🦂🦞🪲
What stood out to me most about this very adventurous dish (scorpion, worms, baby lobster, ants and beetles) was the preparation … the creatures were deep fried in lime juice and light oil, nothing else.
Not pictured are some side salsas and corn tostadas where the protein rich bugs were annointed, then eaten like a hard taco. 🌮
Taste-wise, all the bugs had a fairly bland and similar texture — crunchy enough to be chewed easily and enjoyed along with the toppings. I can’t say I really noticed any specific flavor other than the generic protein itself, so the visual aspect of the meal and ensuing anticipation outweighed any actual taste bud surprises.
Until next time!
